Bromine Bromine
Using Bromine is the easiest way to keep your hot tub water clean and clear.

Advantages

  • Bromine is less volatile than chlorine
  • Bromine stays longer in the water at the high temperatures hot tubs operate.
  • Bromine does not form the smelly by-products that chlorine does
  • Most people do not find it as necessary to shower after using the hot tub to get rid of smells on their skin
  • Bromine tablets take up to 10 days to dissolve when placed in a small floating dispenser.
  • That means chemicals do not need to be dosed every day.

How to use bromine in your hot tub
  • The number of tablets you need to keep in the floating dispenser depends on how much the hot tub is used.
  • For a 1200 litre hot tub that is used by two people twice a week, two or three bromine tablets in the small floating dispenser will keep the bromine level about right.
  • Whilst you are getting used to using bromine tablets test the bromine every day and adjust the collar on the bottom of the dispenser according to the result.
  • After a while you will know when you have to put an extra tablet in and how open to have the collar. Then you will not need to check as often

    Disadvantage

  • The only disadvantage of bromine is that when you start up with fresh water the bromine can struggle to dissolve quickly enough to establish a bromine level.

    How to overcome this disadvantage

  • To overcome this add 250 ml of the bromine starter liquid and 30 grams of oxyshock per 1000 litres of water.
  • This will give a quick boost to the bromine.
  • You only need to add the bromine starter liquid after you completely empty and refill the hot tub with fresh water.
  • If you ever need to boost the bromine level quickly; perhaps if the water is cloudy after the hot tub has been heavily used; just add 30 to 100 grams of oxyshock per 1000 litres of water
